Dr. Dre and Ice Cube are the main ones controlling the narrative of N.W.A. — so of course they are going gloss over the misogyny that spawned rapper after rapper, who built their careers off disrespecting Black women.
And now that the critically acclaimed Straight Outta Compton is sparking nostalgia and brining out those bandwagon fans — who think Cruisin In My 64 is the actual name of a Eazy – E track, those woman beater stories that refuse to go away have surfaced one again.
Dr. Dre — The man responsible for brutally beating Dee Barnes & Michel’le acknowledged the abuse in a new Rolling Stone interview.
Dee’s interview with Ice Cube that led to the attack. And typical of cowards — Dre beat up on a woman instead of Cube, the person he was really mad at.
But Dre, who has rationalized the Dee Barnes beating over the years, yet again tries to distance himself from his violent & disgusting behavior by giving a half-assed apology.
“I MADE SOME F—–G HORRIBLE MISTAKES IN MY LIFE,” DRE SAID. “I WAS YOUNG, F—–G STUPID. I WOULD SAY ALL THE ALLEGATIONS AREN’T TRUE – SOME OF THEM ARE. THOSE ARE SOME OF THE THINGS THAT I WOULD LIKE TO TAKE BACK. IT WAS REALLY F—D UP. BUT I PAID FOR THOSE MISTAKES, AND THERE’S NO WAY IN HELL THAT I WILL EVER MAKE ANOTHER MISTAKE LIKE THAT AGAIN.”…
And if you expect the man with the permanent mean mug to be apologetic, think again.
Ice Cube had this to say.
“IF YOU’RE A BITCH, YOU’RE PROBABLY NOT GOING TO LIKE US,” HE SAYS. “IF YOU’RE A HO, YOU PROBABLY DON’T LIKE US. IF YOU’RE NOT A HO OR A BITCH, DON’T BE JUMPING TO THE DEFENSE OF THESE DESPICABLE FEMALES. JUST LIKE I SHOULDN’T BE JUMPING TO THE DEFENSE OF NO PUNKS OR NO COWARDS OR NO SLIMY SON OF A BITCHES THAT’S MEN. I NEVER UNDERSTOOD WHY AN UPSTANDING LADY WOULD EVEN THINK WE’RE TALKING ABOUT HER.”
And now the propping of N.W.A. has begun — to where the kings of misogyny are being hailed as the innovators of “reality” rap.
In light of the studio gangsters, wack rap beefs and ratchet rap, people are romanticizing a time when “keeping it real” was new & fresh.
But thanks to N.W.A. — bitch & ho is basically a prerequisite in rap music now.
Around the 1:03 mark N.W.A had this to say about the beating
But Dr. Dre & Ice Cube are unapologetic about the destructive legacy N.W.A. left behind because after all, the both of them have become extremely rich & influential because of the group.
Dr. Dre hasn’t spent one day in jail for beating women but claims to have paid for his evil acts. He paid Dee Barnes a small settlement long ago & never apologized to Michel’le but his comments in Rolling Stone point to someone who is riddled with social anxiety and other demons.
Is that what Dr. Dre meant when he said he “paid” for his mistakes or is he just messing with us ?
And controversy creates cash yet again — and Oscar buzz because Straight Outta Compton made close to 60 million opening weekend.
Seeing that his rep, coins & the cushy job at Apple were being threatened – Dr. Dre tries to stop the floodgates from opening by issuing another flimsy — sorry but not sorry apology. He also tries to justify the abuse by blaming it on the alcohol and being young, despite the fact that he was almost 30 years old at the time.
And Dre tries to distance himself yet again because he never mentions Dee Barnes, Michel’le, and Tairrie B by name. Apple — who doesn’t give a damn about anything but money put a nice little bow on Dre’s apology by saying he is a changed man.
