Well, it has been quite the week in real and entertainment news. Here are some of the highlights of the good and ratchet that went down.
1. New York Subway Tragedy:
In this vicious 24 hour news cycle it seems like we pay attention to the last tragedy for about for about 5 minutes before we move on to the next one. But for the family of Ki-Suck Han the man killed by Naeem Davis after being pushed in front of a moving train, there will be a lifetime of pain after the headlines have faded.
But what has to be the most disturbing thing is in this society of over sharing, people seemed to be more fixated and concerned with taking pictures of Ki-Suck Han’s dead body to sell them and have them on their devices, than to actually help him move from in front of the train ultimately killed him. Shades of the bystander effect indeed and it does not help the image that many have of New Yorkers as cavalier and callous.
2. Rick Ross is skured, cancels rest of tour:
Well Well, you take your stage name from a notorious drug dealer. Rap about that hardcore life and now when things get a little to real, when gang members threaten you because your rapping about one of their own, you are running scared.
Which still begs the question why did so many hang on to every word these studio gangstas said, like it was messages from Jesus.
3. More evidence to refute the defeatist attitude that Blacks don’t help each other, Ella Edwards gets her deceased son’s loan paid thanks to Tom Joyner.
In these times when financial institutions have accepted corporate welfare to bail them out of the mess they created, only to go on and make record profit that same forgiveness isn’t extended to regular citizens. Ella Edwards co signed a educational loan for her only child Jermaine, who died in 2009 at the age of 24. Because she was the co-signer she was on the hook to pay the money back to American Education Services. Enter Tom Joyner who heard about the situation and without hesitation pledged to pay the over 10 thousand bill.
4. In a WTF moment, Will Smith hits up President Obama to pardon T.I of all people.
The fuckery doesn’t stop in a recent interview T.I reveals what went down during a convo with Will Smith (They share the same B-Day)
Getting a massive side eye Will Smith thinking he has some pull in the highest office, uses it to try to get a misogynistic, chauvinist, gun collecting idiot rapper pardoned. Thank Goodness Obama had some sense to not entertain that B.S and get back to doing work for the American people and not pardon someone who kept on thinking he could get away with the dirt he was doing, until a stint in the pen stopped him..for now.
5. Ice-T Takes Coco to task on Twitter:
Let’s see, a former pimp whose wife has naked cooch and camel toe pics that litter the internet is all of a sudden twisting in the wind over pics of her getting a little to close to another dude.
Ice lashed out in tweets that he eventually deleted but you know how that goes, nothing is ever deleted when all it takes is less than a minute for someone to screen capture what you wrote to save for prosperity. Is this the case of Ice’s ego being bruised because the pimp is now the one who got out pimped for all to see or is this little drama staged to eventually appear on their reality show.
6. Frank Ocean: Playing the PR game ?
When Frank Ocean revealed his feelings for another man coinciding with the release of his debut CD within notorious homophobic hip hop community, others like Russell Simmons came out in support.
But Frank really didn’t confirm anything regarding his sexuality. Now with picture after picture surfacing of him and his alleged boyfriend, Frank is still ambiguous as ever. But is it the case of others before him like Ricky Martin and George Michael, who didn’t feel comfortable revealing their true sexuality until after they had huge sucess. Or is Frank just being PR savvy, in that he knows full well that it’s one thing to say you have had attraction to other man, while leaving others to speculate on your true sexuality but another to fully come out as a gay man.
