New York Subway Tragedy, Rick Ross, Ice T and Coco and More

Well, it has been quite the week in real and entertainment news. Here are some of the highlights of the good and ratchet that went down.

1. New York Subway Tragedy:

In this vicious 24 hour news cycle it seems like we pay attention to the last tragedy for about for about 5 minutes before we move on to the next one. But for the family of Ki-Suck Han the man killed by Naeem Davis after being pushed in front of a moving train, there will be a lifetime of pain after the headlines have faded.

But what has to be the most disturbing thing is in this society of over sharing, people seemed to be more fixated and concerned with taking pictures of Ki-Suck Han’s dead body to sell them and have them on their devices, than to actually help him move from in front of the train ultimately killed him. Shades of the bystander effect indeed and it does not help the image that many have of New Yorkers as cavalier and callous.

2. Rick Ross is skured, cancels rest of tour:

Well Well, you take your stage name from a notorious drug dealer. Rap about that hardcore life and now when things get a little to real, when gang members threaten you because your rapping about one of their own, you are running scared.

Which still begs the question why did so many hang on to every word these studio gangstas said, like it was messages from Jesus.

3. More evidence to refute the defeatist attitude that Blacks don’t help each other, Ella Edwards gets her deceased son’s loan paid thanks to Tom Joyner.

In these times when financial institutions have accepted corporate welfare to bail them out of the mess they created, only to go on and make record profit that same forgiveness isn’t extended to regular citizens. Ella Edwards co signed a educational loan for her only child Jermaine, who died in 2009 at the age of 24. Because she was the co-signer she was on the hook to pay the money back to American Education Services. Enter Tom Joyner who heard about the situation and without hesitation pledged to pay the over 10 thousand bill.

4. In a WTF moment, Will Smith hits up President Obama to pardon T.I of all people.

The fuckery doesn’t stop in a recent interview T.I reveals what went down during a convo with Will Smith (They share the same B-Day)

Getting a massive side eye Will Smith thinking he has some pull in the highest office, uses it to try to get a misogynistic, chauvinist, gun collecting idiot rapper pardoned. Thank Goodness Obama had some sense to not entertain that B.S and get back to doing work for the American people and not pardon someone who kept on thinking he could get away with the dirt he was doing, until a stint in the pen stopped him..for now.

t.i pardon

5. Ice-T Takes Coco to task on Twitter:

Let’s see, a former pimp whose wife has naked cooch and camel toe pics that litter the internet is all of a sudden twisting in the wind over pics of her getting a little to close to another dude.

Ice lashed out in tweets that he eventually deleted but you know how that goes, nothing is ever deleted when all it takes is less than a minute for someone to screen capture what you wrote to save for prosperity. Is this the case of Ice’s ego being bruised because the pimp is now the one who got out pimped for all to see or is this little drama staged to eventually appear on their reality show.

6. Frank Ocean: Playing the PR game ?

When Frank Ocean revealed his feelings for another man coinciding with the release of his debut CD within notorious homophobic hip hop community, others like Russell Simmons came out in support.

But Frank really didn’t confirm anything regarding his sexuality. Now with picture after picture surfacing of him and his alleged boyfriend, Frank is still ambiguous as ever. But is it the case of others before him like Ricky Martin and George Michael, who didn’t feel comfortable revealing their true sexuality until after they had huge sucess. Or is Frank just being PR savvy, in that he knows full well that it’s one thing to say you have had attraction to other man, while leaving others to speculate on your true sexuality but another to fully come out as a gay man.

Ratcheness and Mystique Goodness of the Week Featuring Chanita Foster, Dawn Neufeld, Miss Black France and others

A rundown of some moments that transpired during the last week that you either smiled or gave the side eye to.

Ratcheness

1. Who else among the 10 or so people that watched Football Wives suspect that Pilar Sanders nemesis on the show Dawn Neufeld and Chanita Foster at some point deep down were a wee bit happy over the mess that is now Pilar’s life.

2. Only in America can you kill a child, set up a website, raise more money in a short period than a lot of charities raise in years. “Allegedly” know nothing about the money raised (supposedly your attorney has 0 clue to) than get set free on a low amount because the judge assumes you have no money.

3. Lamar Odom went from having a respectable basketball career to being a full time member of the 24/7 Kardashian family circus getting filmed considering getting grillz for his teeth (a La Kanye)..NICEEE (And thank goodness he pulled the plug on his show (for now) before it was to late)

4. It’s a given that Kanye and Kim are giving themselves self gratifying pats on the back for the press they managed to create for themselves but it still dosen’t take away the elephant in the room. Kim=legally still married.

Mystique Goodness

5. Even though I do find it great that Star Jones is speaking out against the dumpster fire we all love to hate in Basketball Wives, but isn’t this the same person that hosted the Bad Girl’s Club #2 reunion ?

6. In a country like France where the national identity of being “French” is used as a broad brush for everyone it is ruffling a lot of feathers that Black women in France want to represent in the Miss Black France Pageant. The fact that it is making a lot uncomfortable is all the more reason why the pageant should be a regular event.

7. Ross Harrison of the Bronx, who is autistic ran away from home because he was tired of being teased on the bus. What’s great about this story is that in 2012 some Good Samaritans actually were paying attention and not glued to their smartphones or some Apple device. Thanks to them Ross returned home to his family.

8. Aww, I never get tired of seeing the President and The First Lady express their love for each other.

9. Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar, some things are not always meant to be intentionally offensive. The first thing I thought when I saw the Afro dish washing sponges was that it would be fun to have one, not how racist it is. The sponges also have two White characters in a punk rocker and a groovy chick.

10. Isn’t funny how a lot are shocked that Think Like A Man did so well in week two. When in fact a excellent marketing campaign was executed in the Black Media. But of course since the “mainstream” media kinda ignores diversity, they were blind to it.

Mystique Goodness of the Week: Featuring Beyonce, Paula Patton, Think Like A Man and More

Some of this weeks moments that make you smile or laugh.

1. Seeing Beyonce taking it wayy back to the 90′s rocking a Versace shirt reminded me of the days of Biggie, his Versace shirts and when rap was actually decent and R&B wasn’t on life support.

2. I notice a lot of comments around the Internets from people clowning Paula Patton’s high school photo, knowing damn well that most of them were busted themselves in high school. Paula looked beautiful then as she does now.

3. Who else is happy that Think Like A Man is going to open to over 30 million in box office. It is always refreshing to see films that portray Blacks beyond the typical one dimensional characterizations.

4. None of us will get anywhere in life just sitting on the couch waiting for things to fall into our lap. We have to put some effort into our goals and take risks which is exactly what actress Racquel Bailey did when she put up a Billboard in ATL, hoping to get Tyler Perry’s attention. Time will tell whether it will succeed or not but best of luck to her for believing in herself and her talent enough to take the steps necessary to reach her goal.

5. Four year old Andra McGowan has the maturity of a adult. His poise under the worst of circumstances is something a lot of adults can learn from to. When he saw fire coming out of the plug while watching TV, he didn’t hide like fire officials said most children do but he hollered for his mother right away. Andra’s mother then made sure everyone got out of the house alive. The only thing Andra was upset that he lost was his church clothes.
