Deion Sanders has been charged with misdemeanor simple assault in the wake of an altercation with his estranged wife that got her arrested at their mansion in suburban Dallas, police said late Tuesday.

Police said further investigation led to citations against both Deion and Pilar Sanders, who still live together but on different sides of their palatial home in Prosper, Texas, a city about 30 miles north of Dallas.

The charge doesn’t warrant arrest. Prosper police spokesman Celso Martinez wouldn’t detail the allegations, but said the charge covers any act considered aggressive and could be as simple as touching or defensively jerking away from someone’s grip. The charge carries a fine of up to $500.

Pilar was released from a Prosper Texas Jail but not before a emergency protective order was filed against her. The order prohibits Pilar from going to the couple’s Prosper house for the next 60 days. She’s also not allowed to threaten or harass any member of her family. Pilar’s friend Dianna Boswell was also charged.

The judge says she can send someone to her house to collect personal belongings, but only between 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Pilar left the Collin County Jail Tuesday morning, accompanied by friends, family, and her lawyer. She said, “I am innocent. I understand that I have a very little chance at beating a Hall of Fame, two-sport man that everyone seems to love and adore. I am a full-time mom 100 percent for my children and I have just not gotten a fair shake.”
